The eighth Mahavidya, the paralyzer of enemies, the bestower of victory — Maa Baglamukhi is one of the most powerful and feared deities in the Tantric tradition.
Maa Baglamukhi, also known as Pitambara Devi, is the eighth of the ten Mahavidyas (great wisdom goddesses) in the Tantric tradition. Her name derives from "Bagla" (a distortion of "Valgā" meaning bridle) and "Mukhi" (face) — literally "the one whose face has the power to control."
She is depicted as a golden-complexioned goddess dressed entirely in yellow, seated on a golden throne. In her left hand, she holds the tongue of a demon, and in her right hand, she wields a club (mudgar). This iconic imagery represents her power to paralyze (stambhan) the speech, movement, and actions of enemies.
The worship of Maa Baglamukhi is primarily associated with the Stambhan Vidya — the science of paralyzing enemies. This includes not just physical enemies but also mental obstacles, negative thoughts, addictions, and any force that opposes one's righteous progress.
According to the Tantric scriptures, Maa Baglamukhi manifested during a great cosmic storm that threatened to destroy all creation. Lord Vishnu prayed to the Supreme Shakti at Haridra Sarovar (turmeric-colored lake), and from the golden waters emerged Baglamukhi, who stopped the storm by paralyzing its force. This origin story establishes her as the ultimate power of cessation and control.
Stambhan literally means "to immobilize" or "to paralyze." In Tantric practice, this refers to the ability to stop or freeze any opposing force — whether it's an enemy in a court case, a rival in business, a competitor in politics, or negative energies attacking your family.
The Baglamukhi Moola Mantra — "Om Hleem Baglamukhi Sarvadushtanam Vacham Mukham Padam Stambhaya Jivhaam Keelaya Buddhim Vinashaya Hleem Om Swaha" — is one of the most powerful mantras in the entire Tantric corpus.
When chanted 1.25 lakh times with proper Vedic pronunciation and devotion, this mantra creates a vibrational field that directly impacts the throat chakra (Vishuddhi) of the opponent, rendering their arguments and actions ineffective.
